One Room Challenge Week 5: Almost There

Chronicling my adventures restoring and updating a quirky old Philadelphia rowhouse

One Room Challenge Week 5: Almost There

Well, it’s been a grueling week and a half, but we’ve gotten some work done.

You can probably see some unfinished details there. We still don’t have trim up on the left bookcase because I took the wrong piece of wood to my parents’ house and we ripped down a piece that’s too short. I was pretty mad about it, but it won’t be that much to do along with the rest. Except that I wanted to see my bookcases done.

Also, you can finally see just how I planned for these bookcases to fit into the wall. And the blue radiators, which should be working by this time next week. And rumor has it we’ll need it soon.

The other side of the room is a little less finished. But hey, we can get to the bed without tripping over things and then watch TV in it now, so what else could you ask for?

The shelves are all painted, too, but they don’t fit. Oops! I’ll be cutting them all down a little on Saturday, along with that last piece of face trim.

Then there are flaws like this that I’ve lived with for 5 years. A friend talked me into future proofing the house with CAT-5 cable. I don’t have any plans to use it at this time… except to put in a box and a cover plate.

Then the windows. We got a coat of paint on them, and then touched them up, but that might be it for this year. We only get so many days when the weather cooperates to take them out, and also we have jobs that make most of those days hard to do, and the burnout told us that they look fine like this for now. You can’t see it unless you’re this close though.

But we’re not just close, we’re ahead!

Yes, being able to get to the bed and watch the TV plus having the radiator ready for use are big steps! But think how excited you will be to put your books away!

  2. Wow! It looks like a fancy hotel room! I’ve learned so much from you.

  3. Slowly but surely. Don’t forget to measure twice!
